Leadership development begins with a considered conversation.
Atherly exists because serious leadership work deserves a serious setting — one where there is time to think, and someone worth thinking alongside.
← Back to HomeHow Atherly came to be
Atherly was founded in Bangkok after a long observation: that senior leaders across Thai organisations and regional offices frequently carry significant decisions with very little room to examine them. Coaching exists, and leadership training exists — but neither quite addresses the need for a trusted, unhurried relationship where the actual questions of leadership can be looked at carefully.
The firm takes its name from the idea of a reading room — a space set apart for careful attention. That spirit shapes how every engagement is designed. Sessions are not workshops. There is no framework to complete, no competency model to fill. Instead, a senior advisor sits alongside the leader and asks good questions. Over time, the pattern of those questions begins to reveal something useful.
Our advisory team has carried senior roles in organisations across Southeast Asia, and understands the specific texture of leadership within Thai and regional contexts — the way decisions move through organisations, the particular pressures of holding a team's attention, and the quiet work of settling into a larger seat.
Since opening our doors on Sukhumvit 49 in Bangkok, we have worked with leaders from financial services, manufacturing, technology, professional services and public sector organisations. The common thread among those who come to us is not industry — it is the recognition that leadership, at its more demanding levels, benefits from careful reflection and an honest outside perspective.
What we hold to
Honest conversation over performance
We are not interested in what a leader thinks they should say. We work with what is actually happening — which requires a relationship built on discretion and trust.
Enough time to reach something real
All our engagements run over multiple sessions. The most useful reflections rarely arrive in the first conversation — they emerge once the relationship has some weight.
Advisors who have been in the room
Our team has held P&L responsibility, managed large teams, and navigated the particular pressures of leadership in Southeast Asian organisations. That experience matters.
Discretion as a foundation
What is discussed in sessions is not shared with sponsors, organisations or third parties beyond the written reading that participants and sponsors agree to receive.
Small groups, real depth
Group programmes are capped at twelve. That number is deliberate — large enough for peer learning, small enough for each person to be genuinely known in the room.
Rooted in Bangkok
We work from our office on Sukhumvit 49. Our advisors understand the Bangkok business environment and the specific leadership questions that arise within Thai and regional organisations.
The advisory team
Matthew Ward
Founding Advisor
Matthew spent eighteen years in senior leadership roles across financial services in Bangkok and Singapore before moving into advisory work. He leads the Senior Leadership Programme and the Executive Reflection Series.
Praewa Srisuk
Senior Advisor
Praewa brings fifteen years of experience as a managing director in manufacturing and professional services in Thailand. She co-facilitates group programmes and leads conversations on stakeholder navigation and first-hundred-day transitions.
James Kuroda
Programme Advisor
James works primarily on the New-In-Role Conversation Series, drawing on his background as a country head in technology and regional operations. He is particularly interested in the language choices leaders make in their first months in a larger role.
Standards we work to
Advisory relationships carry obligations. These are the standards we hold ourselves to in every engagement.
Participant Confidentiality
No individual participant's contributions are reported to sponsors or other parties. This is stated clearly and held firmly throughout every programme.
Written Engagement Agreements
Every engagement begins with a clear written agreement covering scope, fees, confidentiality, and the form of any written reading provided at close.
Senior Advisor Qualification
All advisors have held significant senior leadership positions themselves. Advisory work here draws on real organisational experience, not only facilitation or coaching training.
Regular Programme Review
Programme content and approach are reviewed annually. We take seriously what participants tell us works and what does not, and adjust accordingly.
Leadership advisory in Bangkok
Senior leadership in Bangkok operates at a particular intersection of Thai organisational culture, regional business dynamics, and the expectations of global principals. Leaders who hold significant roles in this environment carry questions that do not fit neatly into standard development frameworks.
Atherly's work addresses this directly. Our Senior Leadership Programme brings together a small group of senior leaders from one organisation for six months of focused, structured conversation — working through the recurring challenges of leadership identity, the rhythm of decision-making under complexity, and the specific work of holding a team's confidence over time.
The Executive Reflection Series serves a different need: a private, sustained relationship between a single executive and a senior advisor, built around the small set of leadership questions that the executive most wants to examine carefully. This series suits leaders who already have access to advice on strategy and operations, but want a separate space to think about how they lead.
The New-In-Role Conversation Series is shorter and more focused. It exists because the first months in a larger role are unusually important — the signals a leader sends about their style, their values, and their relationship with authority shape the organisation's view of them for years. Five carefully structured conversations can change how that period unfolds.
All three engagements are available to organisations and to individual executives in Bangkok and across Thailand. Initial conversations are without charge — we discuss what the work might involve before any commitment is made.
